Work in progress: Frowijn & Tilanus Atelier

WinterSALON/2014: For this edition of SALON/  Henriette Tilanus and Liselore Frowijn decided to team up.
Henriette Tilanus and Liselore Frowijn are fashion designers, based in Amsterdam. They studied at ArtEZ Academy Of Arts in Arnhem and graduated Cum Laude in 2013. Tilanus won with her collection ‘Let the dust settle’ he G-Star Raw Lichting 2013 Award and Frowijn the Frans Molenaar Couture Award 2013 with her collection ‘Afternoon Of A Replicant’. Henriette Tilanus's designs come from a poetic image in her mind combined with things she sees in real life. One day, when she did her internship in London she saw an old lady on the street with pink hair and a transparent headscarf. Things like this she collects in her mind and it becomes a new story. She loves to make my her own material and create an atmosphere which is based on this self-formed story. Therefore she embroiders, paints, knits, and reworks fabrics in an artisanal manner and bring them together like a collage. In a way she paints with fabric. Her aim is to create a sensitive yet contrasting image in which she plays around with fragile and heavier materials, layers, volumes, and colors.
Liselore Frowijn is a designer who combines contrasting aspects into a new exciting idea. She creates a characteristic world and colourful atmosphere, balancing on the narrow border of high and low cultures. Every new design is a living painting, carefully built up as a collageHer fabrics are hand painted or embroidered. The silhouettes are voluminous and layered, and the transparency of the fabrics causes an eclectic play-a-long between background and foreground: a weird kind of luxury is the result. Her designs are for women with a curiosity for the world.  As the designer herself, they are explorers in heart and soul; always searching for the perfect balance between aestheticism and imperfection.

This summer 2014, they'll present their new collection together, and with this exposition they show a preview of their inner world of thoughts and dreams throughout the atmosphere of their atelier.

This is the second time that Tilanus and Frowijn participate at SALON/. Part of their graduate collections went to China with SALON/BJ in 2013; see Henriette Tilanus' work at SALON/BJ  see Liselore Frowijn's work on exhibit during SALON/BJ

De Parel-ketting
The name ‘De Parel’ (The Pearl, La Perle, Die Perle, La Perla, Den Perlen, …), although indicating a precious possession, is a common name given to commercial businesses. Traveling around the Netherlands and Belgium, I photographed 28 businesses called ‘De Parel’. My route is a necklace with pearls strung together via motorways. De Parel-ketting is a three meters long concertina, similar to the well-known souvenir for tourists. An accordion of postcards, a necklace of pearls.

winterSALON/ 2014: Collectie Arnhem

E A U  D E  L A   M O D E
60 jaar Arnhemse mode in één parfum!

Collectie Arnhem's campaign image; "From Arnhem with Love" is shot by photographer Erwin Olaf.  With this campaign they ask attention for the degrading circumstances surrounding gay rights in Russia. The print was inspired on “Beat the white with the red wedge” by El Lissitzky. The t-shirt is available in a limited edition of 60 pieces and will be sold in order to support Amnesty International's LGBT project.

"From Arnhem with Love" will be on exhibit at the Posthoorn kerk.
