SALON/Big Bang may relate to ideas shaped by man and nature; the big bang, belief, faith, superstition, disbelief, madness, desire, spirituality, ritual and devotion. SALON/specials:
During SALON/Big Bang there will also be a continuation of SALON/specials. We have noticed there is a desire for a more in-depth exchange of information and ideas through presentations, discussions and conversations. For this purpose, the SALON/specials were created: a gathering at one of the SALON/locations where specific guests or participants are invited to give a presentation on a particular topic, collection or object, to have a ‘try out’, or to test certain ideas through conversation. These SALON/specials are ‘by invitation only’, which give them an exclusive and intriguing character.

In het Nederlands: Naar aanleiding van het succes van afgelopen jaar, waarin zowel SALON/Kant te Amsterdam, alsmede de geslaagde editie SALON/BJ te Beijing in samenwerking met Stad Amsterdam plaatsvonden, heeft SALON/ zich wederom voorgenomen om zich te verhouden tot een specifiek thema.

De overweging om SALON/ de titel ‘Big Bang’ mee te geven komt voort uit het jaarthema ‘ De gelovige stad’ van de Stad Amsterdam. 

De insteek van SALON/ is de geïnspireerde overtuiging of opvatting dat het universum en de aarde, maar ook alle planten en dieren alsmede de mens hun ontstaan te danken hebben aan een bijzondere scheppingsdaad. Deze scheppingsdaad impliceert een schepper of kan gezien worden als een vrij plotseling en eenmalig gebeuren dan wel als een geleidelijk en voortgaand proces, oftewel
‘Big Bang’.

SALON/Big Bang kan verband houden met ideeën die door mens en natuur gevormd zijn: de oerknal, overtuiging, geloof, bijgeloof, ongeloof, waanzin, begeerte, spiritualiteit, rituelen en devotie. SALON/ dient hierbij als ‘zinrijk platform’: daar waar deze ideeën worden bevraagd en bevochten, waar (rituele) handelingen worden verricht, waar door middel van getoonde creaties nieuwe verhalen ontstaan tussen maker en kijker, object en ruimte.

SALON/Big Bang beoogt zowel een dynamische samenwerking tussen deelnemers en publiek, als een beklijvende ervaring. Zoals SALON/ eigen is komen verschillende creatieve disciplines tezamen om vanuit inhoud en overtuiging het werk inzichtelijk te maken binnen het te verwezenlijken parcours.

SALON/ heeft oog voor detail en gelooft heilig in het belang van creatie en cultuur, vandaar dat wij met SALON/Big Bang het publiek wederom meenemen in de ontwikkeling van ideeën en gedachtengoed. SALON/ en deelgenoten onderscheiden zich aangezien zij een gezamenlijk pad bewandelen en een dialoog voeren middels verassende presentaties op bijzondere locaties.

SALON/BigBang opening vindt plaats op donderdag 26 juni van 18.00 tot 20.00 uur in de Oude Kerk te Amsterdam, 2e opening op 2 juli van 17.00 tot 19.00 uur in Magazijn de Amstelkerk en Cromhouthuizen – Bijbels Museum. Op 10 juli is er een 3e opening bij Dits van Frans-Pieter Vonck
 
SALON/
Sinds mei 2010 vormt SALON/ een uniek platform voor mode, design, beeldende kunst en aanverwante disciplines. ‘SALON/’: waar zowel jong aanstormend talent als gevestigde ontwerpers, vormgevers en kunstenaars, in samenwerking met SALON/, unieke installaties creëren, op bijzondere locaties verspreid door de stad, nationaal en internationaal. SALON/ haalt mode van de catwalk, design uit de galerie en kunst uit het museum en geeft hierdoor de mogelijkheid aan de ontwerpers en kunstenaars om hun werk in een andere hoedanigheid en dimensie te tonen aan een divers publiek. Aangezien het werk op buitengewone locaties gepresenteerd wordt middels een route door de stad, initieert SALON/ de mogelijkheid om tot een andere gewaarwording te komen. SALON/ activeert netwerken en vitaliseert in wezen middels dit initiatief de stad. SALON/ heeft met 16 edities aangetoond dat het letterlijk en figuurlijk een reflectie en dialoog brengt tussen het getoonde werk, de objecten onderling, maker en toeschouwer, locatie en stad.

Together with Amsterdam's finest LTGB supporting creatives, Stichting Mediamatic, SALON/ and Martin Butler host a special evening for the benefits of ALLOUT. On June 21st Midsummer-night's Eve, we call upon all Fays, Fairies, and other magical creatures to enter our enchanting realm and celebrate lightness on the longest day.

In more than 79 countries around the world, lesbian, gay, transgendered and bisexual people live in that darkness. They are persecuted, imprisoned, humiliated and tortured, their only crime being their expression of the act of love.
ALLOUT is an international organization that focusses on changing the policy, education and awareness of LTGB rights. Through video testimonials, flash mobs, petitions and other creative content they aim to start provocative conversations to alter the public opinion.
On this Midsummernight's Eve 2014, 21st June we try to make a difference. All benefits on ticket sale and the fashion auction are donated directly to ALLOUT. Let's fight this darkness and celebrate the longest day with love, play and freedom.

winterSALON/2014 special date: February 7, the opening day of the olympic games in Sochi, we will host an event from 13:30 -15:30 hrs. at the Westermarkt 14. (near the Homomonument in Amsterdam) Get your Picture taken wearing the "From Arnhem with Love" t-shirt, designed by 3rd year bachelor fashion design students of ArtEZ Arnhem.
State your case! Support the LGBT-community
Collectie Arnhem's campaign image; "From Arnhem with Love" is shot by photographer Erwin Olaf.  With this image they ask attention for the degrading circumstances surrounding gay rights in Russia. The print was inspired on “Beat the white with the red wedge” by El Lissitzky. The t-shirt is available in a limited edition of 60 pieces and will be sold in order to support Amnesty International's LGBT project.

Afterwards, from 16:00-18:00 hrs (by invitation only), Collectie Arnhem 2014 will present their perfume ‘Eau de la Mode’ at Magazijn

Eamon Harnett is an alumnus from de Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, he graduated at the department of fine arts in 2013.

The jury was extremely impressed by the work of Eamonn.
It expressed clarity, vision and an extraordinary talent.
The visitor steps into a circular hut; the air is scented with baby oil. Eamonn gives performances at different times, but the work also functions without. A video of what previously occurred in the space is constantly playing. It is a work that perpetually changes; with every performance, the hut is also transformed by the touch of the performer. According to the jury, it actually presents the obverse of an artwork: the elements that are needed to create a work. Eamonn uses elements and objects from a plethora of different worlds and inspirations: fetish culture, tribal art, pop art, and so on. The members of the jury experienced the result as a personal mini-mythology. The props Eamonn uses during his performance are made by hand, by the artist. The delicacy with which he makes his work is also a testament to courage. The jury felt that, in finally arriving at this point, Eamonn must have gone through quite a struggle during his time at art school. His graduation project is restrained, slow and silent, but beneath that vulnerability lies a gruesome undercurrent; a contrast between fetish and torture, and tender rituals. The jury looks forward to seeing the work presented in a
larger institution or in a museum. They went on to say, even if it proves painful,

You Are Cordially Invited is a new kind of art magazine. The launch issue presents a two-dimensional art fair with an international line-up of galleries, showing recent –and often still available– works of art. To help point out the manifold perceptions on art the exhibition is supported by ‘guided tours’, which connects a variety of disciplines such as art, architecture, fashion, design, art history and literature. This way the world of art is entered through different perspectives.

Six brand new shows of international house concert network Live in Your Living Room coming up.

Like last Summer, Live in Your Living Room once again teams up with SALON/ @ the Winter SALON/ 2014, with a mini-festival of intimate concerts.

Again, some of the finest inner-city locations in Amsterdam, such as De Waag, De Oude Kerk, Amstelkerk, and Museum Willet Holthuysen, will be host to our concerts. A varied line-up of artists, together with these beautiful locations, provide the setting of what promises to be a very special series of concerts.

Entrance fee: 10 euro per show.

SALON/BJ report at winterSALON/2014

At the winterSALON/2014 in Amsterdam you can visit the report of the work made by participating designers of SALON/BJ during Beijing Design Week 2013. This report was shown earlier at the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven in 2013. Manon Schaap and Gijs Stork decided to show the SALON/BJ report again so as many people as possible can see what Dutch designers made on the other side of the Globe, sharing their work is important to SALON/.
