winterSALON/2013: Cornelia Edwards

Form / Deform from Behavior-Office on Vimeo.

Cornelia Edwards (1987) work is unfolding segments of questions about the physical and psychological behaviours associated with the fashion garment, and the interplay of this interior and exterior. She tries to answer questions like why is a red tie associated with power dressing or the reason striped uniforms were used to marginalize prisoners behaviour. By formulating new definitions in fashion communication she uses analogue photography and film and creates custom garments as tools for investigation.

She also undertakes domains such as visual anthropology; semiotics and sociology, where she believes that garments have underlining agendas and that the properties of visual systems are open for analysis and stuffed with representational processes.

After completing her Bachelor of Visual Arts at the University of Stellenbosch, Zuid Afrika, she found a pathway to pursue her interest and completed her Masters in Fashion Communication (with honours) from the Graduate School of Visual Art, Utrecht.

You can find this film playing in the cafe of the Amsterdam Museum.
