SALON/Big Bang: Studio rENs

SALON/Big Bang: Studio rENs at the Oude Kerk
RenS (Renee Mennen and Stefanie van Keijsteren) always go their own way , but actively pursue
collaboration. Spontaneity is important to them, but they perform extensive research before getting
down to work, and love exploring boundaries. RenS operate as a duo in order to enable continuous

sparring and pushing each other to the limit. This creates the twist in many of their designs.
Since they took off in 2008, RenS collaborated with partners like Desso, Cor Unum, Zuiderzeemuseum, Texielmuseum and Lynfabrikken. RenS followed their hearts with RED, a study into meanings and applications of that one specific colour with the strong connotations in multiple areas. Their studio is located in Eindhoven.

SALON/BJ Participants: A group of fifteen Dutch designers/artist went to Beijing to work together with volunteering Chinese art students and inhabitants of the Dashilar area. The Dashhilar area is situated in the old center of Beijing and is one of the few area's where traditional houses can be found. Several rooms and houses where assigned to the participants of SALON/BJ for them to work in. The finished work is on show in that same place. (photocredits ©JW Kaldenbach)

rENs: Work in progress

SALON/BJ: Studion rENs: Work in progress. rENs are Stefanie van Keysteren and Renee Mennen, 2 designers who decided to work with the color red. They found all kinds of material, like for instance flowers, to dye garments in this Chinese color for good luck. (Photo's by © JW Kaldenbach)

Paris came in contact with SALON/BJ via Vision Magazine, she works with rENs on their project in Dashilar.

This prototype jacket will be reproduced and dyed by hand in 20 different shades of red.
Just around the corner of the Factory, the exhibition space of rENs, we saw these towels. You can find them throughout the area outside of hairdressers shops. They do come in different colors but finding these red ones nearby was a nice coincidence.
